Professional Associations

HESAA students are encouraged to become affiliated with a professional organization within the field of student affairs or higher education. These organizations provide access to professional development, mentoring, networking, and leadership opportunities. Some of the professional organizations our students affiliate with are listed below.

AERA - American Educational Research Association

AERA, founded in 1916, is concerned with improving the educational process by encouraging scholarly inquiry related to education and evaluation and by promoting the dissemination and practical application of research results. AERA's more than 25,000 members are faculty, researchers, graduate students, and other distinguished professionals with rich and diverse expertise in education research.

ACPA - College Student Educators International

ACPA, headquartered in Washington, D.C. at the National Center for Higher Education, is the leading comprehensive student affairs association that advances student affairs and engages students for a lifetime of learning and discovery. ACPA, founded in 1924 by May L. Cheney, has nearly 7,500 members representing 1,200 private and public institutions from across the U.S. and around the world.

ACUHO-I - Association of College and University Residence Halls International

ACUHO-I members believe in developing exceptional residential experiences at colleges, universities, and other post-secondary institutions around the world. The ACUHO-I membership includes thousands of campus housing professionals from more than 950 colleges and universities that house approximately 1.8 million students worldwide.

ACUI - Association of College Unions International

Founded in 1914, ACUI is a nonprofit educational organization that brings together college union and student activities professionals from hundreds of schools in seven countries. Its members work on urban and rural campuses, in two-year and four-year institutions, and at large and small schools. They are students and administrators whose mission is to build campus community.

ASHE - Association for the Study of Higher Education

ASHE is a scholarly society with about 2,000 members dedicated to higher education as a field of study.  ASHE promotes collaboration among its members and others engaged in the study of higher education through research, conferences, and publications, including its highly regarded journal, The Review of Higher Education.

CSPA-NYS - College Student Personnel Association of New York State

The College Student Personnel Association of New York State, Inc. is a comprehensive professional student affairs organization dedicated to fostering the development of our members; a diverse community of educators, students and scholars within higher education. Originally founded in 1967, CSPA-NYS is comprised of over 300 members across New York state.

NASPA - Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education

NASPA is the leading association for the advancement, health, and sustainability of the student affairs profession. We serve a full range of professionals who provide programs, experiences, and services that cultivate student learning and success in concert with the mission of our colleges and universities. Established in 1918 and founded in 1919, NASPA is comprised of over 15,000 members in all 50 states, 25 countries, and 8 U.S. Territories.

NODA - Association for Orientation, Transition, and Retention in Higher Education

NODA was chartered in 1976 and continues the tradition of orientation, retention and transition professionals who have met annually for over 40 years.  Today, NODA is an international association comprised of professional administrators, students, faculty and related organizations.
